First Event at the American Corner

The first event at the American Corner in Vanadzor took place on August 21, 2007 in the Lori Regional Library. The event was called Learn Your Rights. Twenty children and teenagers from Crossed Roads NGO were invited to the newly opened American Corner to learn about its activities and also to watch the film Primer of Right.

At the beginning of the event Anica Genjyan, head of the Circulation Department, stated that children and teenagers are not generally informed about their rights and duties. She noted that thanks to the opportunities provided by the American Corner, they would be able to watch the film about this important topic. In her speech, Ms. Genjyan added that the aim of the event was to acquaint the children and teenagers with the newly opened American Center and to make them its primary audience.

Andranik Hovhannisyan, head of the Automation Department, talked about the American Corners in Armenia Program and emphasized how fortunate it is that one of the four centers is located in Vanadzor. He added that the opening of the American Corner in Vanadzor was possible due to the support of the U.S. Embassy. After the conclusion of the welcome speeches, participants watched the film about human Rights, freedom of speech, and constitutional and other rights in both Armenian and English. It was watched with great interest.

After watching the film, the head of the Department of Organizing Methodic Works, Anahit Hakobyan, introduced the newly opened exhibition on human rights and offered her assistance in acquainting the children and teenagers with the rules of library. Specifically, participants were acquainted with the rules of using Internet and with some educational programs.

The event was highlighted in broadcasts by local media stations Lori TV and Mig TV.
